Desloratadine tablets USP, 5 mg are light blue, circular, biconvex, film-coated tablets debossed "LU" on one side and "S71" on other side, containing 5 mg desloratadine, an antihistamine, to be administered orally. Desloratadine tablets USP also contain the following excipients: anhydrous lactose, colloidal silicon dioxide, FD&C Blue#2/Indigo Carmine Aluminium Lake, hydrogenated vegetable oil, hypromellose, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, pregelatinised starch and titanium dioxide. Desloratadine is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is freely soluble in dichloromethane and in methanol. It has an empirical formula: C 19 H 19 ClN 2 and a molecular weight of 310.8. The chemical name is 8-chloro-6,11-dihydro-11-(4-piperdinylidene)-5 H -benzo[5,6]cyclohepta[1,2- b ]pyridine and has the following structure:
