Rufinamide, USP is a triazole derivative structurally unrelated to currently marketed antiepileptic drugs (AEDs). Rufinamide, USP has the chemical name 1-[(2,6-difluorophenyl)methyl]-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4 carboxamide. It has a molecular formula of C 10 H 8 F 2 N 4 O and a molecular weight of 238.2. The drug substance is a white, crystalline powder. Rufinamide, USP is insoluble in water, slightly soluble in tetrahydrofuran and in methanol, and very slightly soluble in alcohol and in acetonitrile. Rufinamide is available for oral administration as a liquid containing rufinamide, USP at a concentration of 40 mg/mL. Inactive ingredients include anhydrous citric acid powder, hydrochloric acid, hydroxyethylcellulose, methylparaben, microcrystalline cellulose & carboxymethylcellulose sodium, natural and artificial orange flavor, poloxamer 188, potassium sorbate, propylene glycol, propylparaben, purified water, simethicone emulsion 30%, sodium hydroxide and sorbitol solution 70%.
