Carbamazepine, USP is an anticonvulsant and specific analgesic for trigeminal neuralgia, available for oral administration as extended-release tablets of 100, 200, and 400 mg. Its chemical name is 5 H- dibenz[ b,f ]azepine-5-carboxamide, and its structural formula is: Carbamazepine, USP is a white to off-white crystalline powder, practically insoluble in water, freely soluble in methylene chloride sparingly soluble in acetone and in ethanol (96 percent). Its molecular weight is 236.27. Inactive Ingredients : Mannitol, dextrates, hypromellose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, cellulose acetate, polyethylene glycol, propylene glycol, shellac and ferrosoferric oxide.
