Methadone hydrochloride is chemically described as 6-(dimethylamino)-4,4-diphenyl-3-hepatanone hydrochloride. Methadone hydrochloride USP is a white powder that is water-soluble. It has the following structural formula: Each 5 mL of Methadone Hydrochloride Oral Solution contains 5 mg or 10 mg of methadone hydrochloride USP and the following inactive ingredients: alcohol (8%), benzoic acid, citric acid, FD&C Red #40, FD&C Yellow #6, flavoring (lemon), glycerin, sorbitol, and water.
