The active ingredient in gabapentin oral solution is gabapentin, USP which has the chemical name 1-(Aminomethyl) cyclo hexaneacetic acid. The molecular formula of gabapentin is C 9 H 17 NO 2 and the molecular weight is 171.24. The structural formula of gabapentin is Gabapentin, USP is a white to off-white crystalline solid with a pK a1 of 3.7 and a pK a2 of 10.7. It is freely soluble in water and both basic and acidic aqueous solutions. The log of the partition coefficient is –1.1. Gabapentin oral solution contains 250 mg of gabapentin per 5 mL (50 mg per mL) and the following inactive ingredients: carboxymethylcellulose sodium, methylparaben, propylene glycol, propylparaben, purified water, xylitol, anise flavor, artificial strawberry flavor and hydrochloric acid added for adjustment of pH. gabapentinosstructure
