Haloperidol is the first of the butyrophenone series of major tranquilizers. The chemical designation is 4-[4-(p-chlorophenyl)-4-hydroxypiperidino]-4'-fluorobutyrophenone. It has the following structural formula. Each tablet for oral administration contains haloperidol USP, as 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 2 mg, 5 mg, 10 mg or 20 mg. Inactive ingredients for all strengths include colloidal silicon dioxide, hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose and sodium starch glycolate. The 2 mg also contains D&C red #27 aluminum lake. The 5 mg , 10 mg , and 20 mg also contain D&C red #27 aluminum lake and D&C yellow #10 aluminum lake. Chemical Structure
