Dexamethasone Tablets, USP, for oral administration, are supplied in two potencies, 4 mg and 6 mg containing 4 mg and 6 mg of dexamethasone, USP respectively. Inactive ingredients are corn starch, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, pregelatinized starch and sodium starch glycolate type A. The molecular weight for dexamethasone is 392.46 g/mol. It is designated chemically as (11β,16α)-9-fluoro-11,17,21-trihydroxy-16-methylpregna-1,4-diene-3,20-dione. The molecular formula is C 22 H 29 FO 5 and the structural formula is: Dexamethasone, USP, a synthetic adrenocortical steroid, is a white to practically white crystalline powder. It is stable in air.
