Indomethacin capsules, USP for oral administration contains 25 mg of indomethacin. Each capsule contains the following inactive ingredients: corn starch, croscarmellose sodium, lactose monohydrate, polyethylene glycol 4000, stearic acid, and talc. The capsule shell contains D&C Yellow #10, FD&C Green #3, gelatin, and titanium dioxide. The black imprinting ink contains alcohol, black iron oxide, D&C Yellow #10, FD&C Blue #1, FD&C Blue #2, FD&C Red #40, ferrosoferric oxide, n-butyl alcohol, propylene glycol, and shellac glaze. Indomethacin is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory indole derivative designated chemically as 1 – (4-chlorobenzoyl)-5-methoxy-2-methyl-1 H -indole-3-acetic acid. The structural formula is: Indomethacin is practically insoluble in water and sparingly soluble in alcohol. It has a pKa of 4.5 and is stable in neutral or slightly acidic media and decomposes in strong alkali.
