Duloxetine Delayed-Release Capsules, USP are a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) for oral administration. Its chemical designation is (+)-( S )- N -methyl-γ-(1-naphthyloxy)-2-thiophenepropylamine hydrochloride. The structural formula is: C 18 H 19 NOS•HCl M.W. 333.88 Duloxetine hydrochloride, USP is a white to slightly brownish white solid, which is slightly soluble in water. Each capsule contains enteric-coated pellets of 33.7 mg of duloxetine hydrochloride, USP equivalent to 30 mg of duloxetine. These enteric-coated pellets are designed to prevent degradation of the drug in the acidic environment of the stomach. Inactive ingredients include ammonium hydroxide, black iron oxide, gelatin, hydroxypropyl cellulose, hypromellose, hypromellose phthalate, potassium hydroxide, propylene glycol, shellac, sugar spheres (which contain sucrose and corn starch), talc, titanium dioxide, triethyl citrate and FD&C Blue #1 Aluminum Lake. 1
