Fluoxetine hydrochloride is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor for oral administration. It is designated (±)- N -methyl-3-phenyl-3-[(α,α,α-trifluoro- p -tolyl)oxy]propylamine hydrochloride and has the empirical formula of C 17 H 18 F 3 NO∙HCl. Its molecular weight is 345.79. The structural formula is: Fluoxetine hydrochloride is a white or almost white powder. Each scored tablet contains fluoxetine hydrochloride equivalent to 60 mg (194 µmol) of fluoxetine. In addition, each scored tablet also contains the following inactive ingredients: hypromellose 2910 (3 mPas), hypromellose 2910 (6 mPas), magnesium stearate, maize starch B, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol 400, polysorbate 80, povidone K30, and titanium dioxide.
