Gabapentin tablet contains gabapentin, a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) analogue, as the active pharmaceutical ingredient. Gabapentin's chemical name is 1-(aminomethyl)cyclohexaneacetic acid; with a molecular formula of C 9 H 17 NO 2 and a molecular weight of 171.24 g/mol. Gabapentin chemical structural formula is: Gabapentin, USP is a white to off-white, crystalline powder with a pKa1 of 3.7 and a pKa2 of 10.7. It is freely soluble in water and in alkaline and acidic solutions. The log of the partition coefficient (n-octanol/ 0.05M phosphate buffer) at pH 7.4 is -1.25. Each gabapentin tablet intended for oral administration contains 300 mg, 450 mg, 600 mg, 750 mg or 900 mg of gabapentin. In addition, each tablet contains the following inactive ingredients: copovidone, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polyethylene oxide, povidone, talc and titanium dioxide.
