Carbamazepine USP, is an anticonvulsant and specific analgesic for trigeminal neuralgia, available for oral administration as extended-release tablets of 100 mg, 200 mg and 400 mg. Its chemical name is 5 H -dibenz[ b,f ]azepine-5-carboxamide, and its structural formula is: Carbamazepine USP is a white to off-white powder, slightly soluble in acetone, very slightly soluble in ethanol, insoluble in water. Its molecular weight is 236.27. Inactive Ingredients : cellulose acetate, dextrates, ferric oxide yellow, ferric oxide red, hypromellose, hydroxyethyl cellulose, magnesium stearate, mannitol, polyethylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate. Each tablet is printed with opacode S-1-17823 black ink which contains ammonium hydroxide, black iron oxide, isopropyl alcohol, n-butyl alcohol, propylene glycol and shellac.
