Hydromorphone hydrochloride, a hydrogenated ketone of morphine, is an opioid analgesic. The chemical name of hydromorphone hydrochloride is 4,5α-epoxy-3-hydroxy-17-methylmorphinan-6-one hydrochloride. The structural formula is: Tablets (for oral administration) contain: 2 mg hydromorphone hydrochloride, USP (light orange to orange colored, mottled, round, flat-faced beveled edge tablet) and the excipients anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, D&C Yellow #10 aluminum lake, and D&C Red #30 aluminum lake/Helendon Pink aluminum lake. 4 mg hydromorphone hydrochloride, USP (light yellow to yellow colored, round, flat-faced beveled edge tablet) and the excipients anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal silicon dioxide, magnesium stearate, and D&C Yellow #10 aluminum lake. 8 mg hydromorphone hydrochloride, USP (white to off-white, round, flat-faced beveled edge tablet) and the excipients anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycolate, colloidal silicon dioxide, and magnesium stearate.
