Zolpidem tartrate tablets, USP are available in 5 mg and 10 mg strength tablets for oral administration. Chemically, zolpidem tartrate, USP is N , N ,6-Trimethyl-2- p -tolylimidazo[1,2-α]pyridine-3-acetamide L-(+)-tartrate. It has the following structure: (C 19 H 21 N 3 O) 2 •C 4 H 6 O 6 M.W. 764.87 Zolpidem tartrate, USP is a white to off-white crystalline powder that is sparingly soluble in water, alcohol, and propylene glycol. Each zolpidem tartrate tablet, USP includes the following inactive ingredients: hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, polysorbate 80, sodium starch glycolate, and titanium dioxide; the 5 mg tablet also contains iron oxide red.
