LAMPIT contains nifurtimox, an antiprotozoal. The chemical name is (E)-N-(3-Methyl-1,1-dioxidothiomorpholin-4-yl)-1-(5-nitro-2-furyl)methanimine. The molecular weight is 287.29 and the molecular formula is C 10 H 13 N 3 O 5 S. The structural formula is: LAMPIT (nifurtimox) tablets are yellow round, biconvex tablets, each containing 30 mg or 120 mg of nifurtimox, intended for oral use. The 30 mg tablets are functionally scored on one side and marked with ‘30’ on the other side. The 120 mg tablets are functionally scored on one side and marked with ‘120’ on the other side. The inactive ingredients of the tablets are as follows: calcium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, magnesium stearate, maize starch, silica colloidal anhydrous and sodium lauryl sulfate.
